The Moon Bear Story

YouTube – The Moon Bear Story 亞洲黑熊(月熊)的故事.

I’m publishing an interview with Jill Robinson of Animals Asia Foundation. The blog want to describe the Calvary of the Moon Bears. Unable to move inside a tiny cage for 20 years, for as long as they stay alive. Twice a day their bile is extracted from their bodies for use in medicines, drinks and shampoos. The pain is so great that they try to commit suicide. To stop them doing that, their claws have been pulled out and their teeth sawn off. 10,000 Moon Bears are tortured in China, Korea and Vietnam. Jill will shortly tell us about the products containing their bile and the addresses of the torture sites. Help Jill by going to the site Animals Asia Foundation.

Text:

Jill Robinson: “This poor bear has clearly been in a cage for years and years and years. He’s not only performing severe stereotypic behaviour but it is to such an extent that he has actually worn the fur completely off his face and some of his body. He’s also got very dry and cracked pads, hyperkeratotic footpads which again indicate that this bear has not stood on solid ground for years and years. It’s a complete disgrace.

These two baby bears are actually sucking each other’s paws. This is the noise that they would actually make when they are sucking milk from their mother. The first bear, which doesn’t seem to be in too bad a condition, but we are quite worried about some of these here. You can see the suffocating cages and one of them has an eye problem.

But until we get them out here we can’t really see their condition but you can smell some of them. I think we have some problem bears here with infections. We think 29 have arrived but then again, until we get them off, we’re not sure. This one we are really worried out too. During the night he’s been moaning a lot. He’s been bringing his back legs up to his chest as though he has severe abdominal pain. He’s got a lot of ulcers around his mouth. He’s trying to scratch inside his mouth. He wants to eat but it’s obviously causing him some pain as well. He’s quite thin and he’s also blind in one eye.

So we have a lot of problems with this one too. I’m quite worried about him. Actually his face is horrible. It’s very badly ulcerated on the lips.

Interviewer: Do you think he’ll make it?

Jill Robinson: I don’t know. I don’t have a good feeling particularly about this one, but you know, they prove us wrong time and time again and we do see miracles, so let’s hope for this one. They are such a stoic animal, you know they can withstand so much pain and stress. No other animal would be able to adapt to that sort of environment, certainly no human being. But again we find time and time again, they pull through. But I can’t help being very very worried about this one.

YouTube – HOME Trailer

YouTube – HOME Trailer.

In 200,000 years on Earth, humanity has upset the balance of the planet, established by nearly four billion years of evolution. The price to pay is high, but it’s too late to be a pessimist: humanity has barely ten years to reverse the trend, become aware of the full extent of its spoliation of the Earth’s riches and change its patterns of consumption.

More than a movie, HOME will be a major event all over the globe : for the first time ever, a film will be released on the same day in over 50 countries and on every format : movie theatres, TV, DVD and Internet.

On June 5th we all have a date with the planet !

These disasters could happen by 2100

globalwarming1

Time is running fast but also the temperature.  Below you can find the effect on our planet of the increased temperature in Celsius degrees:

+ 1: Melting of the Arctic – Disappearance of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers – Shrinking of the main glaciers from the Alps to Tibet – Start of the destruction of the Great Barrier Reef – Extinction of hundreds of species – Increase in the number and the intensity of hurricanes – Rise in sea level with numerous atolls being submerged, including the archipelago of Kiribati with 78,000 people.

+ 2: Reduction in the degree of alkalinity of the seas with the gradual destruction of plankton and of organisms whose shells are made of calcium carbonate (plankton is at the base of the food chain in the ocean) – A drop in the growth of plants in Europe by up to 30% – Melting of the glaciers in Greenland – Disappearance of the Polar Bear – Famine in India and Pakistan.

+ 3: Disappearance of the Amazon basin and the rain forests – Desertification of Australia – Super-hurricanes in North America – Permanent drought in the continent of India because of a change in the monsoons – Indo and Colorado dry out – New York and other coastal towns submerged by water – Development of epidemics in Africa.

+ 4: Melting of the Antarctic – the Nile Delta submerged by the sea – Famine in China – Mass migration towards temperate countries like Russia and Europe.

+ 5: Expansion of the deserts – Drying up of the aquifers – Increase in mass migration – Possible disintegration of the continental shelves – Tsunami – Civil wars and ethnic conflicts for resources.

+ 6: Possible outpouring of hydro sulphuric acid from the oceans – Clouds of methane. Poisoning of the surface of the earth. Disappearance of a good part of the vegetation. Drastic reduction in the population.

Produce clean energy is the key. Although some theories states that current global warming is just part of a natural cycle of our planet, to maximize natural resource is not an option anymore. Too much waste, too much energy consumption and careless of nature are already creating devastating effects all around the globe.  The resources are limited and we have to move toward a conscious change altogether.

No more excuses now. Our time for change has come.

So be ready to fight the heat this century, global warming its afecting even you.

2012, Who will survive?

Quite shocking news for all of you out there: we are all gonna disappear in 2012.

Fiction or reality? i am quite puzzled about it. There are great piece of scientists saying this is far to be just a fantasy. They claim that our beloved planet could happen to receive some disastrous  natural events and there are several theory for the  causes:

  • heavy solar activity
  • crustal displacement
  • planet x

I invite all of of your the visit this interesting website  http://www.instituteforhumancontinuity.org to have a and idea of the catastrophic scenario we are gonna face in the next few years ;-(

Ps: Ah, almost forget, the Maya calandar forecasted all this ages ago

World’s population to hit 7 billion in 2012

earth2012

Yes, we are all gonna have less space on this world, but from the bright point of view you can appreciate the fact that you will have more friends. The point is:  is the world is ready to cover the 7 billion human being demand of consumption?

The answer is..lets wait and see.  Unless something apocalyptic is gonna happen in that years i am very curios to see what will going on.

Here is the full article of the news:

The world’s population will hit seven billion in early 2012 and top nine billion in 2050. According to a UN estimate, the vast majority of the increase will come from developing countries in Asia and Africa. The Director of the UN Population Division, Hania Zlotaik said the figures were no different from previous estimates in 2006. She said the projections are based on the assumption that fertility currently around two point 56 children per woman is going to decline to about 2.02 children per woman world wide.

Madam, Zlotnik. Said if fertility remains where it is now, then world population would reach 10.5 billion by 2050, but if it falls even more than expected, to about 1.5 then the population would only increase to 8 billion by mid-century. She added that population growth will remain concentrated in the most populous countries through 2050.

Nine nations are expected to account for half the projected increase, they are India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, the US, Congo, Tanzania, China and Bangladesh.

In sharp contrast, the population of 45 countries or regions are expected to decline at least 10% over the same period. They include Japan, Italy and many other countries that were once part of the Soviet Union.

Chinese Air Pollution Deadliest in World, Report Says

A satellite view of the harbour of Tianjin, China

According to the People’s Republic of China’s own evaluation [so you can consider the following statistic pretty much more dramatic] two-thirds of the 338 cities for which air-quality data are available are considered polluted– two-thirds of them moderately or severely so. Respiratory and heart diseases related to air pollution are the leading cause of death in China. Acid rain falls on 30% of the country. China’s environmental laws are among the strictest in the world, but enforcing these laws has been difficult in China. The World Health Organization has found that about 750,000 people die prematurely each year from respiratory problems in China.

According to the World Bank, the cities with the highest levels of particulate matter in the PRC in 2004 were Tianjin, Chongqing, and Shenyang. These were among the ten most polluted cities in the world by this measure.

I am reporting an interesting article released by the National Geographic about the level of air pollution in China:

China, the world’s fastest growing economy, has earned another startling superlative: the highest annual incidence of premature deaths triggered by air pollution in the world, according to a new study.

A World Health Organization (WHO) report estimates that diseases triggered by indoor and outdoor air pollution kill 656,000 Chinese citizens each year, and polluted drinking water kills another 95,600. (Related: “China’s Pollution Leaving Mountains High and Dry, Study Finds” [March 8, 2007].)

“Air pollution is estimated to cause approximately two million premature deaths worldwide per year,” said Michal Krzyzanowski, an air quality adviser at the WHO Regional Office for Europe.

Krzyzanowski worked with WHO to look at costs and casualties of pollution across the globe. He helped the group develop new air quality guidelines that set out global goals to reduce deaths from pollution.

Deadly Air

Damaging air pollutants include sulfur dioxide, particulate matter—a mixture of extremely small particles and water droplets—ozone, and nitrogen dioxide. China accounts for roughly one-third of the global total for these pollutants, according to Krzyzanowski. (See a map of China.)

In neighboring India, air pollution is believed to cause 527,700 fatalities a year. In the United States, premature deaths from toxic air pollutants are estimated at 41,200 annually.

The combustion of fossil fuels—whether to power China’s many automobiles, its burgeoning factories, or its expanding megacities—is a primary source of outdoor air pollutants.

The burning of coal or charcoal to heat homes, common throughout China, also produces a range of indoor air pollutants. (Related: “China’s Boom Is Bust for Global Environment, Study Warns” [May 16, 2005].)

Air pollution can trigger or worsen a wide spectrum of respiratory and cardiovascular ailments.

WHO’s air guidelines warn that pregnant women, the elderly, the sick, and young children are especially susceptible to suffering severe effects from high pollution levels.

Suppressed Information?

The total number of Chinese whose lives are cut short by pollution-triggered diseases aligns closely with the figures that were reportedly left out of a recent World Bank study.

China’s State Environmental Protection Agency engineered the removal of the statistics, the Financial Times reported, because the government feared the figures could trigger social unrest.

The World Bank is perceived as a staunch ally to China. The organization has committed roughly 40 billion U.S. dollars, along with expert advice, to projects ranging from rural poverty alleviation to promoting sustainable development.

Yet Internet access to certain World Bank reports on China is now being blocked in Beijing.

An official at the World Bank’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.—speaking anonymously for fear of worsening the controversy—said the World Bank is still holding talks with the Chinese government on the final version of the pollution risk report, which is set to be published soon.

“After the [state environmental protection] agency raised questions about our methodology in calculating them, figures on the likely number of deaths per year related to air and water pollution were not included in the draft report—but remain under discussion for the final report,” the bank official said.

Reducing Deaths

WHO leaders, meanwhile, say that meeting new targets on clean air, developed in consultation with 80 environmental health experts across the globe, would drastically curtail the number of Chinese pollution deaths.

“The air quality guidelines for the first time address all regions of the world and provide uniform targets for air quality,” said WHO’s Krzyzanowski.

“These targets are far tougher than the national standards currently applied in many parts of the world—and in some cities would mean reducing current pollution levels by more than three-fold,” he added.

Chen Bingheng, a member of the WHO six-country steering committee that developed the new guidelines, said she was recently invited to explain them to leaders of China’s environmental protection agency.

Yet Chen, a professor at Fudan University’s School of Public Health in Shanghai, added that the guidelines are not legally binding. WHO member states, including China, are free to set their own national standards.

Still, the Chinese capital has a massive incentive to improve air quality for the smog-smothered masses: Beijing pledged to present pristine skies, waterways, and cityscapes during its bid to host the 2008 Olympics.

Geofight journey has begun

bladerunner

Geofight journey has begun.

Its long time i am thinking to open a blog. I firmly believe a free internet is the solutions of most of problems the human race is facing nowadays. Spreading knowledge and understanding the reality of facts are happening around us can play a key role in the process to fix the problems that are struggling the world today.

With this blog, I am gonna give a little contribute to it.

I want to dedicate this blog to few subjects that i care about:  environment, art, technology and society.
These topics are pretty large but i will do my best to provide pure pieces of news and information that i will collect around the internet and off-line.

The world scenario is worrying, the health status of our planet is reaching the point of non return,  animal species are disappearing, the modern economy is a creating environmental disasters all over the world.

I respect my mother earth. She is embracing us and we destroying her. As human being will continue in this direction i am pretty she will find a way to naturally protect herself and the erase the problem we are generating. She will erase the problem, she will erase us.

There is only a way for the human being to survive. Evolve.

I am sure like me there plenty of people ready to fight to let the human being upgrade to new status of mind in order to  solve the problems of  human being is struggling with.

So lets the journey begin , lets the geo-fight start!
